"When I was young I did not ever remember saying I wanted to become a dog and cat groomer someday. I guessed my cultural background dictated that I finished college and worked a decent job in the corporate world where status and reputation were paramount. I did not look for one that allowed me to enjoy my true passion."
I believed that I was living my fate all these years without realizing that my destiny was just lurking under my nose! Yes, fate and destiny are two different ideas: to allow fate to govern my life is to let life happen to me, whereas to destiny is to chase a dream, to discover my purpose of being here and to figure out my unique contribution to the world!
I am an animal lover, I have always been as far as my memory could recall. I grew up surrounded by many animals. I have amassed a vast collection of dog and cat books. I have memorized and put to heart all the dog and cat breeds of the world, including their breed standards (same with my passion for parrots, fancy pigeons, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc.).
My parents, also animal lovers themselves, decided to put up a dog grooming salon in a posh suburb of Metro Manila and that was when I learned how to groom. I never had any formal education in dog grooming, everything was through apprenticeship. Learning was a breeze.
I have chosen my destiny but it did not come to me directly. I came to New Zealand to work as a Registered Nurse. It was not meant to be. I ended up working as a dog and cat groomer for two big pet supplies companies. 
Now is my time to shine. With my partner Angelo who has been very instrumental in setting up the stage for me, we are embarking on this new level of experience – opening up our own Dog and cat grooming salon and doggy daycare! Pursuing one’s destiny is not about a solo journey.

Nico has had an immense wealth of knowledge relating to dogs and cats – breeds, standards, care, nutrition etc. These have served as the foundation for his impeccable grooming skills. Natural hidden talent is what Nico describes his grooming prowess. He only needed to immerse himself briefly into the different grooming styles, among others, and he was on his own. He has a vision of how his subject should look like after a groom.
Angelo Antalan
Director
Angelo has adapted his affinity with dogs and cats from Nico although he was a respiratory therapist back home. He worked his way in the grooming industry by may of apprenticeship from some of the veteran grooming salons of Auckland. Now, he is the brainchild of Scissorhounds.
